The Zurich Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Madrid is on Sunday 25 April 2027, with a marathon and a half marathon (the 10K has been dropped) and 47,000 bibs across the two distances. Madrid in spring is expensive anyway: on 1 November, for race weekend (Friday 23 to Sunday 25 April), Booking listed 557 places to stay in Madrid with free cancellation and a score of 7 or more, at a median of €317 a night for two people.
And a single Saturday night went up to a median of €407. Up here you can see how many places are left and how prices are moving, updated every week; below, why it pays to stay near metro line 5, which neighbourhoods are better value and, at the end, a map of what is still available.
Where everything is over the weekend
- Start: in 2026 it was on Paseo de la Castellana, between Plaza de San Juan de la Cruz and Plaza del Doctor Marañón, at 8:45 for both the marathon and the half. That is where this guide’s walking times are measured from; the organisers will confirm the 2027 course.
- Finish: in 2026, on Paseo de Recoletos, between Cibeles and Colón, right in the centre.
- Metro to the start: Gregorio Marañón (lines 7 and 10) and Rubén Darío (line 5).
- Bibs: at the runners’ expo at IFEMA, on the Friday and Saturday before the race, 10:00 to 20:00 in 2026. No bibs are handed out on Sunday. IFEMA is next to the airport: if you fly in on Friday or Saturday, pick up your bib on the way.
- Bag drop: free in 2026, on the Castellana, near the finish.
Why line 5
The start is on the Castellana, more than half an hour’s walk from the centre, but the finish is on Recoletos, a short walk from almost any central neighbourhood. The practical option is to stay in the centre and take the metro to the start: line 5 runs through La Latina, Ópera, Callao, Gran Vía and Chueca and drops you at Rubén Darío, next to the start, without changing trains. After the finish, you walk back.
Areas
What was available on 1 November for two nights, Friday 23 to Sunday 25 April, for two adults. Time is how long it takes to walk to the start along real streets at an easy pace (median for the area); price is the median per night.
| Area | Walk to the start | Metro to the start | Median per night | Available |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Malasaña and Chueca | 36 min | Chueca (line 5), direct | €281 | 58 |
| Universidad, Gran Vía and Plaza de España | 42 min | Gran Vía and Callao (line 5), direct | €316 | 38 |
| Sol and Austrias | 47 min | Ópera and Callao (line 5), direct | €468 | 90 |
| Barrio de las Letras | 51 min | Sevilla or Banco de España (line 2), one change | €314 | 52 |
| La Latina, Lavapiés and Embajadores | 56 min | La Latina (line 5), direct | €297 | 42 |
Malasaña and Chueca: the closest, and not the most expensive
These are the central neighbourhoods closest to the start (27 to 42 minutes on foot, or two stops on line 5 from Chueca), with the lowest median, €281. There were 58 places left, most of them hotels and guesthouses. Hostal Prada (score 8.8) was €240, Fuencarral Adeco (score 8.8) €265 and Onefam Madrid (score 9.3, 32 minutes) €266. From the finish on Recoletos, it is a quarter of an hour’s walk back.
Universidad, Gran Vía and Plaza de España: a good middle ground
Between Gran Vía and Plaza de España there were 38 places, at a median of €316. Hospedium Hotel Los Condes (score 8.5) was €294 and Hostal Lauria (score 9.1) €340. Callao and Gran Vía, on line 5, are close by.
Sol and Austrias: plenty of choice, and the most expensive
This is where most places were left, 90, but at a median of €468 a night. Below that figure, Hostal Pio Centro (score 8.8) was €195 and Onefam Sungate (score 9.4) €244.
Barrio de las Letras: close to the finish
This is the closest neighbourhood to the Recoletos finish, a short walk down towards Cibeles, and there were 52 places at a median of €314, almost all guesthouses and small hotels. Diezmadrid (score 8.7) was €170 and Hostal Alexis Madrid (score 8.8) €206. To get to the start you need to change lines.
La Latina, Lavapiés and Embajadores: the furthest from the start
There were 42 places, at a median of €297. From La Latina, line 5 takes you straight to Rubén Darío. Select Sol (score 8.8) was €255.
Which nights to book
Properties with free cancellation and a score of 7 or more on 1 November, for two adults:
| Nights | Places available | Median per night | Cheapest per night |
|---|---|---|---|
| Friday 23 to Sunday 25 (2 nights) | 557 | €317 | €120 |
| Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 (1 night) | 233 | €407 | €120 |
| Reference: Friday 30 April to Sunday 2 May (2 nights) | 564 | — | €91 |
- Don’t book only Saturday night: there were 233 places left and the median was over €400.
- Friday and Saturday offers more than twice the choice of Saturday night alone (557 places against 233) and costs considerably less per night. As bibs must be collected by Saturday, arriving on Friday is the most comfortable option.
- The comparison with the following weekend does not tell us much this time: it is the weekend of 1 and 2 May, both holidays in Madrid, and the city fills up too (there were almost as many places left as for the race). Comparing the same properties, both weekends cost the same.
Five things to check before you pay
- Free cancellation and its deadline. The race is almost six months away: book with free cancellation and note the last day you can cancel.
- The nearest line 5 station: it takes you to the start without changes.
- How you will get to IFEMA for your bib: it is far from the centre, next to the airport.
- Early breakfast: with an 8:45 start and a metro ride, ask whether they serve it earlier on Sunday.
- Saturday night noise in Malasaña, Chueca and La Latina: ask for a room at the back.

How we got these prices
We searched Booking on 1 November 2026 for two adults in one room, for three stays: Friday 23 to Sunday 25 and Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 April, plus the following weekend as a reference. We filtered for free cancellation and a score of 7 or more, and combined the results sorted by price, score, distance and Booking’s own recommendations. Booking sorts a Madrid search from the centre, so the neighbourhoods in the table are central ones; Chamberí and Salamanca, closer to the start, do not appear in this measurement. The price is the one any user sees, without loyalty discounts; the price per night is the total divided by the nights. Walking times are measured along real streets from the 2026 start, at an easy pace. We left out beds in shared rooms. For the reference search we only collected part of the results, so we give no median there and compare prices property by property. Prices change daily.
