The organising committee of the European Indoor Athletics Championships unveiled Batonet, the competition’s mascot, on 4 November. The championships will take place from 4 to 7 March 2027 at the Palau Velòdrom Lluís Puig in València.

Who is Batonet?

The unveiling came exactly four months before the start of the championships. Batonet is inspired by the baton used in relay events and represents the values of camaraderie, effort and unity.

The Valencian agency Media Sport Press designed the mascot. Its name is a play on words: “baton” means a relay baton in English and contains the word “bat”. The name also features the suffix -et, the Valencian diminutive.

What its features mean

Batonet’s orange colour is a tribute to the Valencian orange and a nod to the flames of Fallas. The mascot wears running shoes and features curved lines from the championships’ visual identity and the Valencia 2027 logo.

It also has bat wings. These follow the tradition of mascots at major championships being inspired by an animal associated with the host city. The committee has kept the baton as the central feature and added only the wings.

Batonet’s debut in January

Batonet will make its first appearance in person in January. Afterwards, the mascot will visit Valencian athletics clubs with a programme of activities.
