The Generali Málaga Marathon has a new route for its 16th edition on Sunday 8 November 2026. The event takes place in Málaga and expects around 20,000 runners across the marathon and half marathon, starting on Paseo del Parque, where the marathon finish line is also located.

A new route with a joint start at 8:30

The organisers describe the new route as “faster, flatter and with fewer turns”. It is designed to help both recreational and elite runners achieve personal bests.

The two distances will start together at 8:30, in different waves. Both marathon runners, covering 42.195 kilometres, and half marathon runners, covering 21.095 kilometres, will set off from Paseo del Parque, opposite the University of Málaga’s Rectorate building.

The marathon finish line will also be on Paseo del Parque. During the first part of the route, runners will pass through the city centre, the port and along the eastern coast before heading back towards the city centre.

From Paseo del Parque to El Palo: kilometres 0 to 21

The first kilometres of the Málaga Marathon cross the city centre and head towards the port. The route passes Puente de la Aurora and the Plaza de la Marina area before reaching La Farola at kilometre 7.

After the first 10 kilometres, the race continues through La Malagueta and follows the seafront promenades east. Along this stretch, it passes Baños del Carmen and Pedregalejo before reaching El Palo at kilometre 15.

The route then returns to the city centre. There, half marathon runners turn off towards their finish line, while marathon runners still have 21 kilometres ahead of them.

The second half: La Rosaleda, the Guadalmedina and the west

The second half of the marathon takes runners towards Estadio de La Rosaleda, which they pass at kilometre 25. Further on, between kilometres 27 and 28, the route passes the Guadalmedina river and the area around Santo Domingo.

From there, marathon runners head west across the city. The route passes through Huelin and by San Andrés beach before reaching Estadio de Atletismo de Málaga at kilometre 35.

From kilometre 40 to the finish and road closures

Kilometre 40 is reached on calle Alemania. In the final stretch, the race passes along calle Larios and through Plaza de la Constitución and Plaza de la Marina before reaching the finish line on Paseo del Parque.

The event will involve road closures. Paseo del Parque will remain closed from Saturday evening, and restrictions will be in place in various areas on Sunday until approximately 14:30.
