Plan your race pace

Backed by Monte Feliz and Playitas, the 2027 Desafío La Titánica is a two-day cycling event across central and southeastern Gran Canaria. The race takes place on April 10 and 11, starting in Agüimes and following a route that combines mountain roads, cumulative elevation and a particularly demanding final climb.

The two stages cover a total of 120.5 kilometres and 3,445 metres of elevation gain. On the second day, much of the sporting drama will centre on a single 27.5-kilometre timed section, with gradients above 20% and a finish at Cruz de Los Llanos, 1,635 metres above sea level.

Monte Feliz and Playitas Desafío La Titánica 2027: dates and route

The first stage takes place on Saturday, April 10, covering 58 kilometres with 1,470 metres of climbing. The neutralised start is scheduled from the Agüimes Auditorium. The route heads inland through southeastern Gran Canaria, passing Era del Cardón, Guriete and Santa Lucía before reaching Alto de Temisas and climbing to Alto Montaña Las Tierras.

On Sunday, April 11, the second stage covers 62.5 kilometres and 1,975 metres of elevation gain, also starting from the Agüimes Auditorium. After passing Ingenio, Cuatro Puertas, Telde and Higuera Canaria, riders will take on the timed section that could decide much of the result. Organisers say the route remains largely unchanged from the previous edition.

A timed climb that could shape the standings

The competitive section on day two will cover 27.5 kilometres with 1,435 metres of elevation gain, finishing at Cruz de Los Llanos. The published average gradient is 5.2%, although that figure masks ramps steeper than 20% — a significant difference for riders pacing themselves over a sustained climb.

The finish at 1,635 metres adds another challenge after a route of more than 60 kilometres. In a stage race, the time and effort spent on the first day also affect the decisive stage: conserving energy can matter as much as responding to the steepest sections.

UCI status and the character of a stage race

The event carries the backing of the UCI label and brings two distinct profiles together over one weekend: a first stage through the island’s southeast interior and a second day defined by a long timed climb. Agüimes and San Mateo are listed as host municipalities and form part of the announced island route.

The Monte Feliz, powered by Playitas, name identifies the event’s backing, while its sporting appeal lies in the route’s variety and elevation. For fans of endurance cycling, the format offers a clear contrast between two days on the road and a finish that could concentrate the contest for the leading places.

Gran Canaria, two days in the mountains and a summit finish

The 2027 edition once again puts Gran Canaria’s terrain at the heart of the challenge: inland roads, changing gradients and a final climb with severe ramps make this different from a steady-paced ride. The mix of distance and elevation calls for careful effort management throughout the weekend, not just over the decisive kilometres.

The event is scheduled for April 10 and 11, 2027, with starts at 8 a.m. according to the available route information. Before taking part or following the race, it is worth checking the current regulations and event details, particularly the final start times and registration conditions.
