Denmark’s Magnus Ditlev won IRONMAN Florida 2026 on Saturday 7 November in Panama City Beach in 7:19:17, the fastest known men’s time in a conventional long-distance event. Switzerland’s Alanis Siffert won the women’s race in 8:07:37.
The event consisted of a 3,800-metre swim over two laps, a 180-kilometre bike leg and a 42.195-kilometre marathon. Ditlev built his victory on the bike and finished 14 minutes and eight seconds ahead of Rudy von Berg.
The results are awaiting confirmation: The results are awaiting official confirmation: some publications give Ditlev’s time as 7:19:16. and some publications give Ditlev’s time as 7:19:16. Delete this sentence.
A long-distance benchmark, but no official record
The winner’s time is one minute and 47 seconds faster than the 7:21:04 Sam Laidlow recorded at Challenge Roth in 2026. It is also one minute and 55 seconds faster than the previous benchmark in IRONMAN events: Kristian Blummenfelt’s 7:21:12 in Cozumel in 2021.
There is a qualification when comparing times: IRONMAN does not recognise official long-distance world records, and courses vary between events. The Florida performance is therefore described as the fastest known men’s time, not an official world record.
Ditlev breaks away on the bike
The leading competitors were closely grouped after the swim. Andrew Horsfall-Turner was first out of the water, followed by Emil Holm and Ben Kanute, while the first twelve men completed the leg within 26 seconds of one another.
Andrew Horsfall-Turner was first out of the water in 47:42 and Ditlev completed the swim in 47:52.
Ditlev took the lead before the first bike checkpoint. By 55 kilometres he was more than three minutes ahead of his pursuers and, near the 93-kilometre mark, his lead exceeded six minutes.
Sam Long moved up to second during that stretch, with Von Berg and Kanute also close by as they reached the transition to the run. Ahead of them, Ditlev completed the bike leg in 3:51:16, faster than his own 3:59:02 in Florida in 2023, and began the marathon with a lead of more than 11 minutes. One published source puts his advantage over Long at 11:12, although another gives a different figure.
Hanson reaches the podium in the marathon
The Dane continued to extend his lead on the run and, near the halfway point of the marathon, was 13 minutes and 12 seconds ahead. His final run split was 2:33:31, enough to seal a victory that came four weeks after he withdrew from the World Championship in Kona.
On 10 October, Ditlev had led that race before withdrawing during the marathon. In Florida, the battle for the other podium places had a different outcome: Von Berg and Long ran together until approximately halfway through the run, when Von Berg pulled away to secure second place in 7:33:25. The American recorded 47:50 for the swim, 4:03:18 for the bike and 2:37:09 for the marathon.
Matt Hanson overtook Long in the final kilometres and finished third in 7:35:48, after completing the swim in 51:16, the bike in 4:11:20 and the marathon in 2:28:07. His run split improved on his previous event benchmark of 2:34:06 in 2023. The comeback had added significance because there were three men’s slots for the 2027 IRONMAN World Championship.
Von Berg also went under his previous best time in Florida, the 7:34:41 he set in 2023. Ditlev secured his place at the 2027 World Championship in Kona.
Siffert overtakes Lawrence to win the women’s race
Siffert and Britain’s Holly Lawrence were first out of the water and stayed together for part of the bike leg. The Swiss athlete completed the swim in 51:09 and Lawrence in 51:10. The Briton arrived first at the second transition after a 4:24:07 split, with a 1:55 lead over Siffert, who recorded 4:25:57 on the bike.
The gap disappeared in the opening kilometres of the marathon. Siffert took the lead and completed the run in 2:45:03, on her way to a victory that adds to her win at Challenge Roth in 2026. Lawrence ran the marathon in 3:02:48 and finished second in 8:23:56.
The third-place finisher, who is German, came in at 8:32:21, with splits of 54:57 for the swim, 4:38:48 for the bike and 2:52:16 for the run. The results identify her as Laura Jansen.
The winner improved on the previous women’s event benchmark of 8:22:28, set in 2023, and the fastest women’s marathon time of 2:53:26, set in 2011. The first three earned places in Kona, where Siffert will make her first appearance.
