Nike Infinity Run 4 for women: review, price and verdict

The Nike React Infinity Run 4 for women is a daily training shoe designed to build up mileage with a protected, stable and comfortable ride. Its main update over the previous generation is ReactX foam, a compound Nike presents as more responsive and with a carbon footprint 43% lower than conventional React foam. Its launch price was €169.99.

This model is not aimed at competing with lightweight racing shoes. Its strengths appear during easy runs, long runs and everyday use, including walking. At around 316 grams in laboratory testing, with a durable outsole and soft midsole, it offers protection in exchange for extra weight, moderate breathability and a fit that may feel short for some feet.

An evolution focused on everyday comfort

The Infinity family was built around a clear idea: a shoe capable of accompanying runners through much of the week without demanding refined technique or high speeds. The fourth version keeps that philosophy but changes the underfoot sensation. The old React foam gives way to ReactX, creating a softer platform with a heel-to-toe transition shaped by the curved midsole profile.

In practice, the shoe feels cushioned from the first landing. It is not unstable softness, although it does not offer the firm, explosive response of racing foams either. The foot sits on a wide base, especially in the forefoot, and this geometry brings confidence during easy runs. For someone running after a workday or needing one versatile shoe for walking and training, that personality matters more than saving a few grams.

The construction is neutral and does not include specific elements to correct pronation. Stability comes from the broad platform, the generous outsole contact with the road and the upper’s hold. This makes it suitable for a neutral stride, but it does not turn the shoe into a motion-control model for runners who need additional support.

What ReactX foam adds

According to Nike’s explanation, ReactX is made through an injection process rather than the compression molding used with other foams. The company links that process to a lower environmental impact and improved energy return. Nike’s communications put the gain at 13% compared with the previous React, although that figure should be read as a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee that every runner will feel the same change.

The independent analyses referenced in the research offer a more nuanced view. In laboratory testing, the midsole recorded a hardness of 12.5 HA, approximately 20% softer than the previous version. Energy return measured at the heel was 61.3%, a solid result for a trainer but far from the bounce offered by models using full-length ZoomX.

The difference becomes clearer as the pace increases. At around 4:30 minutes per kilometer, the shoe can handle the effort competently, particularly for runners with efficient technique, but its natural territory is easy running. The foam returns energy progressively, like an elastic surface that follows the movement rather than a trampoline launching the body forward.

The measurements also explain its character. Independent testing placed heel stack height at 34.2 millimeters and forefoot height at 24.4 millimeters, with a measured 9.8-millimeter drop compared with Nike’s stated 9 millimeters. This favors heel strikers and runners who prefer less perceived load on the calves and Achilles tendon, although it does not prevent a midfoot landing.

A protected ride, but not an especially light one

The midsole profile combines cushioning with a rocker shape that smooths the transition. The heel contacts the ground and the curve helps the foot move forward without demanding excessive ankle flexion. On a long, repetitive road, this can feel pleasant; during fast sessions or sharp changes of direction, the same structure feels less agile than a more flexible shoe.

Measured flexibility was 14.8 newtons in a 30-degree bending test, close to the average for road shoes in the comparison. It is not a rigid block, but it does not recreate the natural sensation of a lightweight model either. The geometry, foam volume and outsole rubber work together to prioritize protection and lifespan over low weight.

Weight is the main trade-off. The 316 grams recorded in the laboratory place this model above many daily trainers. That number does not prevent half-marathon or marathon use, but it may become noticeable during the final kilometers or when several hard sessions are combined. Runners who enjoy a quick, close-to-the-ground ride will probably find more suitable responses elsewhere.

Stability, on the other hand, is reasonable for a neutral shoe. Independent measurements placed the forefoot midsole width at 118.4 millimeters, a generous dimension that helps distribute pressure and maintain support. The heel, at 91.2 millimeters, was more conventional. The combination works particularly well for heel landings, although it does not replace a stability shoe designed to control specific movements.

Flyknit upper and women’s foot fit

The upper uses an elastic Flyknit fabric that wraps the foot without relying on an excessively rigid structure. Nike says the material creates 60% less waste during manufacturing than traditional methods used for shoe uppers. On foot, the dominant sensation is softness: the instep is held by a flexible knitted material and the padded collar helps prevent rubbing around the ankle.

The toe box offers medium volume and enough width for many foot shapes, although it is not especially roomy. Measurements recorded 95.3 millimeters at the widest point and 74.1 millimeters across the forefoot. The front section is relatively low, at 22.4 millimeters in height, so the toes remain in contact with the fabric. Some runners will find that enveloping; others may find it too close.

Sizing deserves attention before purchase. Independent testing found an internal length of 259.9 millimeters, below the reference Nike associates with the tested size, and concluded that the model tends to run small. Going up half a size may be sensible if you wear thick socks, want more room in front of the toes or experience foot swelling during long runs. Nike’s official size chart should remain the primary reference, since conversions vary between markets and sizes.

The midfoot hold is firm without being aggressive and the semi-gusseted tongue has approximately 5.6 millimeters of padding. The heel counter is flexible and well protected, which may suit runners who dislike a hard edge over the Achilles tendon. The insole is removable and allows compatible alternatives to be tested, although any change should preserve comfort and fit.

Breathability, rain and summer use

The knitted fabric is clearly comfortable, but its density limits airflow. In a breathability test it received a 3 out of 5 rating, an intermediate result that describes its behavior well: it is not a sealed upper, but it does not release heat as quickly as a highly open mesh either. It works without major issues in mild weather; in intense heat, moisture can build up around the instep.

The water-resistant lining adds a little protection for urban routes and splashes, but it does not make the shoe waterproof. Persistent rain will eventually pass through the fabric and, once wet, the amount of material may make it slower to dry. In warm climates, choosing thin technical socks matters more than it would in a very open upper.

The model also lacks prominent reflective elements. For running at night on roads with traffic or poorly lit streets, visibility will depend on external clothing and accessories. This is a minor detail in daylight but relevant in a shoe intended for year-round daily training.

Outsole: durability before extreme grip

The outsole covers much of the base with rubber and uses small lugs or blocks that favor continuous road contact. The design aims to withstand many kilometers and limit wear in high-impact areas. In abrasion testing, the resulting indentation was only 0.3 millimeters, a figure reflecting above-average durability for road footwear.

Rubber hardness reached 90.4 HC and outsole thickness was 3.7 millimeters. This combination explains why the shoe can retain its appearance after many workouts, but also why ground contact is not especially quiet or flexible. The hard rubber acts as a protective layer under the foam, a discreet armor that sacrifices some of the delicacy of the ride.

On dry surfaces, grip is adequate for ordinary runs on asphalt, sidewalks and bike paths. In wet conditions, measured forefoot traction was 0.43, below the comparison average of 0.52. That does not make it unsafe on a damp street, but it does call for caution on painted crossings, tiles, metal grates and corners taken quickly.

The appropriate terrain is road and urban ground. It can be used on compact paths and firm park surfaces, but it is not a trail shoe: it lacks deep lugs, rock protection and an outsole designed for mud or wet rock. Its durability invites many miles, not every surface.

Which runners will like it most

This model suits beginners who value comfort and do not want a demanding shoe. It can also work well for runners who accumulate easy miles, alternate running and walking, or want a single pair for training, commuting and long periods on their feet. Its broad base and soft cushioning create a secure feeling from the first minutes.

Heavier runners may appreciate the amount of material underfoot, although the shoe’s weight must be part of the decision. During recovery runs, long outings or conversational training, extra grams matter less than protection. For intervals, short all-out races or competition, however, the platform may feel cumbersome.

Distance is not the main issue. The shoe can be used for 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon distances when its character matches the runner’s pace and preferences. For a first marathon, the combination of cushioning, stability and durability is appealing, especially when the priority is finishing with protected feet rather than chasing the fastest possible time.

It is not the logical choice for someone seeking a lightweight shoe, explosive response or outstanding wet-weather grip. Nor should it be confused with a stability model for pronation that requires specific control. The decision depends less on the fact that the shoe is designed for women than on the relationship between foot volume, technique, usual pace and preferred sensation.

Price, availability and Nike’s line-up

The official launch price was €169.99, placing the shoe in the upper end of the daily-training category. The secondary market has shown very different prices for specific colors and sizes, but those offers are not directly comparable with the official price: they may involve used products, clearance stock, third-party sellers or different shipping conditions.

The name can create confusion. Depending on the channel and market, the model appears as Nike React Infinity Run 4, Nike InfinityRN 4 or Nike ReactX Infinity Run 4. DR2670 references identify women’s versions in several colors, while other codes belong to different configurations. Checking the product code, size and return policy helps avoid mixing generations or buying a different variant.

Compared with a ZoomX shoe, the Infinity offers less explosive cushioning but a more practical and durable purpose. Compared with a control shoe, it delivers a freer, neutral sensation. Compared with a lightweight trainer, it gains padding and durability while losing agility. Its place is the middle ground where everyday comfort matters more than the stopwatch.

A dependable partner for adding miles

The Nike Infinity Run 4 for women is not a revolution in speed, but a coherent evolution of a family focused on protection. ReactX softens the midsole, the rocker eases the transition and Flyknit wraps the foot with notable comfort. The result is an enjoyable shoe for easy runs, walking and long outings, with durability that can support its original price.

Its limitations are equally clear: it weighs more than average, the upper can feel warm, sizing tends to run short and wet-surface grip is not a highlight. The foam offers enough energy for training but not the liveliness of racing compounds. Understanding that balance prevents expectations of a response the shoe was never designed to provide.

In a running rotation, it fills the role of the reliable shoe used when running should be uncomplicated. It will not turn an easy run into a fast race or remove injury risk by itself, but it does provide a comfortable, durable platform for maintaining a routine. Its value lies precisely there: making many ordinary miles easier to handle.
