Galatzó race 2027: distances, start times and entry fees
Three distances cross the Serra de Tramuntana on March 7, starting in Es Capdellà with fees that rise as entry tiers fill.

The mountain race crossing the Galatzó public estate returns on Sunday, March 7, 2027, with the start and finish at Plaça Sa Vinya in Es Capdellà, in the Mallorcan municipality of Calvià. The programme includes three routes: Legend, covering more than 43 kilometres; Half, more than 23; and Explorer, more than 12. Their scheduled start times are 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively.
The event combines Serra de Tramuntana trails, physical demands and logistics worth understanding before travelling. Published entry fees range from 27 to 65 euros, depending on distance and registration tier, while participants without a Balearic federation licence must add 7 euros for day insurance. Available information also sets age requirements, cutoff times for the longest race and specific deadlines for transfers or cancellations.
A mountain race in the Serra de Tramuntana
The start is at Plaça Sa Vinya in Es Capdellà, and the routes enter the Galatzó Public Estate, a mountain area within Calvià. The landscape forms part of the Serra de Tramuntana, recognised for its natural and cultural value. This is not an urban circuit with a dirt section added: the terrain and elevation profile are central to the challenge.
The organisers present the event as a trail race with three individual formats, not team events. The longest route passes peaks such as s’Esclop and Puig de Galatzó, while the other options cover fewer kilometres in the same mountainous setting. Published elevation figures for Legend, Half and Explorer are 2,237, 1,133 and 292 metres of ascent, respectively; the final technical guide and any route changes should take precedence if figures are updated.
On these trails, distance alone does not tell the whole story. Rock, slopes and constant changes in footing can make a short section slower and more demanding than a long stretch of asphalt. Effort on the terrain, rather than a familiar road-running pace, is the more useful reference.
Three race options and start times
Legend covers more than 43 kilometres and is open to participants aged at least 24. It starts at 8:30 a.m. and involves the greatest endurance and elevation demands. Half exceeds 23 kilometres, has a minimum age of 21 and begins at 10 a.m. Explorer, covering more than 12 kilometres, starts at 10:30 a.m. and is open to participants aged 19 and older.
The names may suggest neat round distances, but the race information describes Explorer as an approximately 12.5-kilometre route. Reference listings round it to 12 kilometres. For pacing, estimating duration or choosing equipment, it makes more sense to check the route map and elevation profile published by the organisers than to rely only on the event name.
All three starts take place at the same location, but not at the same time. Legend opens the day, followed by Half and Explorer. The routes start and finish in the Es Capdellà square, although the times, precise locations of checkpoints and operating arrangements should be confirmed in the official event documents before race day.
Elevation, terrain and the demands of each route
Legend is the longest challenge, covering more than 43 kilometres with around 2,237 metres of elevation gain according to published figures. Passing s’Esclop and Puig de Galatzó means sustained climbs and descents that can take a toll on the quadriceps, particularly in the second half. For road runners, adapting means more than running extra kilometres; it also means learning to move efficiently over rock and uneven trails.
Half retains the mountain character over a route of more than 23 kilometres. The available reference gives it 1,133 metres of ascent, making clear that this is not a fast, flat half-marathon. Climbs call for restraint, while descents demand control: pushing too hard in the opening kilometres can catch up with runners when the trail rises again.
Explorer is the shortest route, with 292 metres of ascent listed. It may be an entry point to trail running for people who already run regularly, but its shorter distance does not remove the need for suitable shoes or careful foot placement. Across all three options, technical terrain and elevation change the pace; direct comparisons with road-race times are of little use.
Entry fees, quotas and surcharges
Fees are divided into tiers and rise when a tier sells out. Published prices for Legend are 45, 55, 60 and 65 euros; for Half, 35, 45, 50 and 55 euros; and for Explorer, 27, 35, 40 and 45 euros. The cost therefore depends on the chosen distance and the tier available at registration, rather than one fee applying to everyone.
The announced limits are 350 places for Legend, 450 for Half and 200 for Explorer. Participants without a valid licence from the Federació Balear de Muntanyisme i Escalada must pay 7 euros for day insurance. That surcharge should be included when calculating the total cost, along with any payment-platform charges, which are not specified in the information provided.
The organisers offer special conditions for two groups, subject to places remaining. Residents of Calvià aged over 65 can apply for free entry, while people with a recognised disability of at least 33% can request a 50% discount. Applications are handled by email through the organisers and require the details and supporting documents specified in the race rules.
Registration and bib changes
Registration is completed online through the platform specified by the organisers. Because fees depend on registration tiers, the amount may change when a tier sells out, and availability depends on the participant limit for each route. Before paying, check the selected distance, minimum age and current fee, as well as the rules that apply to this edition.
Bib transfers are allowed until January 31, 2027, by submitting a request to the organisers with details for both the registered runner and their replacement. A distance change may also be requested if places remain in the new race. Moving to a shorter option does not earn a refund of the difference; moving to a longer one requires payment of the difference between the amount already paid and the current fee for the new place.
The refund policy depends on when cancellation is requested and excludes payment fees. Before December 31, 2026, 75% of the entry fee is refunded; during January 2027, the refund is 50%; and from February 1 through 28, it is 25%. No refund is available from March 1. To transfer an entry to the following edition, the stated deadline is February 22, 2027, and an accepted reason must be documented.
Checkpoints, cutoffs and race closure
Legend has a maximum time of nine and a half hours, from its 8:30 a.m. start until the scheduled 6 p.m. closure. Race information lists two cutoff checkpoints: the first at 12:45 p.m. at Pas de na Sabatera, kilometre 22.4; the second at 3:30 p.m. at the GR221 crossing with Ses Planes, kilometre 33.
Those two checkpoints are described as non-eliminating, but reaching them late can affect the standings through a penalty. The final closure is decisive: runners finishing after 6 p.m. are disqualified. The organisers reserve the right to extend cutoff times or change the route in adverse weather, which may alter the planned race strategy.
Timing uses a chip provided through the registration platform. Published information warns that failing to wear it during the race may prevent a time from being recorded and may result in a penalty. The available information does not list separate cutoff checkpoints for Half and Explorer; because they share part of the course with Legend, specific times and rules for each race should be checked in the regulations.
Bib collection and race-weekend schedule
Bib collection is scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2027, at the Palau Municipal d’Esports Melanie Costa in Calvià. The exact time is still to be confirmed. The organisers say the bib must be collected before the race and that the shirt is given to those who pick up their race pack, so it is best to check the final schedule before arranging travel.
On Sunday, March 7, Legend starts at 8:30 a.m., Half at 10 a.m. and Explorer at 10:30 a.m. from Plaça Sa Vinya in Es Capdellà. The longest race is scheduled to close at 6 p.m. The programme also lists Legend’s two intermediate checkpoints, but the information provided does not confirm all award-ceremony times or the full schedule of activities.
Es Capdellà is in the municipality of Calvià, on Mallorca. Available details put Palma about 25 minutes away by car and the airport around 30 kilometres away, but do not specify public transport, parking or road closures. Those travel details need local confirmation, especially for anyone travelling on race day and aiming to arrive before the first start.
Equipment and mountain conditions in March
The Serra de Tramuntana combines trail, stone and uneven ground. Trail shoes with dependable grip matter more than a model designed only for speed on compact surfaces. Fit matters too: on descents, feet can slide forward, so an unsuitable size or lacing can increase pressure on toes and toenails.
March can bring changes in temperature, wind or rain, and exposure varies between valleys and higher ground. It is not possible to know the weather precisely so far in advance. A lightweight windproof layer and a compact thermal top may be useful if conditions call for them, always in line with the mandatory equipment set by the organisers for each distance.
For Legend and Half, hydration and the ability to carry a personal cup deserve attention. Reference information says there will be no cups at Half aid stations and that each participant must carry a cup or hydration pack. It is also sensible to confirm the aid stations on each route and test equipment during training rather than using it for the first time on race day.
Preparation: manage effort, not pace
Mountain routes call for consistent preparation and sessions that reflect their demands. Sustained hill work builds specific endurance; long runs with elevation provide an opportunity to test hydration and fuelling; and strength training can improve the legs and torso’s tolerance for climbs and descents. Training load should increase gradually, with enough time for recovery.
Descending technique matters too. Controlled steps and a stable posture can save energy and reduce trips, while charging downhill to gain a few seconds often increases muscular strain. On the steepest climbs, power hiking is not giving up: it can be the most effective way to preserve strength for the rest of the course.
The strategy varies by race. Legend puts particular emphasis on prolonged endurance and fuelling; Half combines pace with technical control; Explorer calls for managing climbs and watching foot placement. In every case, testing the pack, shoes and hydration plan in advance helps prevent problems that cannot be fixed simply by changing pace mid-race.
A sporting challenge rooted in Calvià
The public estate and Tramuntana trails give the event a dimension beyond the stopwatch. Running through this landscape means sharing a natural area and following the organisers’ instructions, particularly on narrow or exposed sections. Protecting the surroundings also depends on simple actions: leave no litter and stay on the marked route.
The 2027 edition offers three options with different profiles, from a short route to a long race of more than 43 kilometres. Places are capped and fees change by tier, while age, insurance and cancellation rules may affect the decision to enter. The official race page and regulations are the final reference for any updates to times, routes, mandatory equipment or availability.
On March 7, staggered starts will make Es Capdellà a meeting point for runners with different goals but the same terrain beneath their feet. For participants, the mountain will set the pace; for spectators, the day offers a way to discover a Mallorcan landscape where each climb opens a view and each descent is a reminder that reaching the finish also takes patience.
